Mandurah offers some magical diving experiences that all divers from the beginner through to the advanced diver can enjoy. Whether you have your own boat or would like to join one of the daily charters that head out to the open waters you can see what lies beneath the water level at anytime throughout the year.
Diving around Mandurah is pretty much a year round water activity that you can do, with summer providing excellent visibility and warm water temperatures through winter is a time that you are definitely going to need to wear a wet suit, some wear a dry suit for better protection, that is around 3mm to 5mm thick and a hood for comfort is also suggested. The temperatures can get to around the mid teens during winter and increase during the summer months.
Around Mandurah there are some great places to dive and explore with the Bouvard Reef being south west of Mandurah and it is here that you will see a diversity of marine life and reef fish. Onto Five Fathom Bank which lies approximately five kilometres off shore and this is one of the best known dive sites around Mandurah where you can dive down to see a beautiful underwater world that will amaze you.
The James Service Reef is another great location that all avid divers to Mandurah must explore, complete with its shipwreck to create a wonderful manmade reef, this reef that lies around 8kms north west of the Mandurah Estuary entrance will be delight for your eyes. See reef fish, small sharks, mantra rays, turtles, dolphins and more all up close and personal. This reef continues up the coast and is known as the Murray Reef so you can expect a dive site that is crammed with an array underwater species and marine life that comes in a myriad of shapes and sizes.
Many dive charters that depart from the Mandurah harbour also include sites around Perth where there is the beautiful Rottnest Island and Carnac Island reefs to explore which is said to be some of Western Australia’s best diving experiences. There are shipwreck graveyard sites which have created a plethora of underwater coral gardens and around Dunsborough you can explore the HMAS Swan that was sunk just off shore.
You can jump on board a diving charter for the day or perhaps longer if you wish to do as much diving as possible or you can simply enjoy some shore diving if you just want to go out alone. All of the diving expeditions will provide you with everything that you need for an enjoyable time in the water as well as a snorkel and mask for people who just wish to skim around the top of the water and do some snorkelling if they don’t hold the divers ticket.
There are swim throughs, caves and tunnels to explore, reef gardens and sunken shipwrecks to dive, so just off shore from Mandurah and just close by are some of the best diving experiences you will ever have. The waters off the coast of WA are some of the best in the world with people coming from all around just to see if for themselves, so when you are on holidays in Mandurah this is a must do while you are here.
