Fremantle Attractions
Fremantle has become famous for its variety of attractions that you can see in and around the city! Being based right at the mouth of the beautiful Swan River and being fringed by the Indian Ocean where you can find an underwater garden just waiting to be explored and bordered by some of the country’s finest wineries in the Swan Valley and Margaret River region, these are just a start to the attractions that you can enjoy while you are in Fremantle, whether you are here for business or pleasure.
For chocolate lovers you must visit the Fremantle Chocolate Factory where you can take a tour and taste some delectable chocolates as well or for the kids they will love the huge number of playgrounds, botanical gardens to run around in and beaches to build sand castles on. The beaches that fringe the coastline provide and endless amount of attractions and activities from swimming, snorkelling, kite boarding, wind surfing and parasailing to just name a few. And Carnac Island which lies just off shore is where you can come to see the sea lions, sea birds and cute little fury penguins. There is also Rottnest Island to sail around and in these waters there is some stunning coral gardens to explore so with a many different diving and snorkelling charters that departs daily you can have every opportunity to do so for yourself while in Fremantle.
You can wander through the weekend markets where you can find many different and interesting buys in over 150 stalls. Take a step back in time and visit the Fremantle Prison which was built out of limestone by convicts in the 1850’s or perhaps you might like to pay your respects at the Fremantle War Memorial which was built to commemorate World War I and II, the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Malayan Emergency. There are museums to browse through to learn about the fascinating history and culture that surrounds Fremantle and beautiful lookouts and vantage points to take in as well. You can wander the streets and find everything from cafes along the famous Cappuccino Strip to jewellery stores, retail outlets, boutiques, shopping malls, restaurants and bars that all look enticing. From the aromatic smells that waft out onto the streets to the store windows that display designer outfits and shoes. You can spend an entire day shopping, wining and dining until your heart is content!
The Swan River is a major asset to the city of Fremantle where you can do anything from plan a holiday on a houseboat to going on a kayak or canoe ride, jet boat ride or simply enjoy a river cruises while enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner. There is Swan Valley to visit and Margaret River to take a drive to which are always a must where you can find a whole other world to discover as well as many other towns and coastal spots that surround Fremantle. The Fremantle Harbour is another attractions that this city boasts where there are cafes and eateries, take away outlets where a great feed of fish and chips can be bought and where you will find elegant restaurants to dine in while you take in the views. You can play a game of golf on the golf courses, explore the five heritage trails or even admire the beautiful Fremantle Yacht Club as you enjoy a picnic in one of the foreshore parklands.
